ModulesScript IDE

S5 Script IDE

A real code editor inside the Ignition Designer.

Edit the real resources of your open project in a full code-editing workspace. Includes live Gateway tools, database work, the Run Query workbench, Script IQ, Script Assistant and inline AI edits.

EDIT, RUN, REVIEW

Move from project resource to reviewed change.

The editing and runtime workspace includes local Script IQ analysis, Script Assistant, and inline AI edits.

01 / EDIT

Work on the real project resource.

Open scripts, WebDev endpoints, and Named Queries in a code-editing workspace inside Ignition Designer.

  • Use tabs, minimap, outline, snippets, multi-cursor editing, and find and replace.
  • Navigate project resources from one file tree and use Ignition-aware completion, hover documentation, and signature help.
  • Stage edits as you type and publish them through Designer's Save.

02 / RUN AND INSPECT

Test without leaving the workspace.

Run and inspect supported project work while the editor remains available.

  • Run scripts in Designer scope with elapsed time and per-run output.
  • Test Gateway message handlers with a typed payload builder and inspect the returned result.
  • Run Named Queries in the workbench. Write operations require explicit confirmation before they run.

03 / REVIEW

Add analysis and AI when you need it.

Script IDE keeps local code analysis distinct from provider-backed AI assistance.

  • Script IQ analyzes project scripts locally without AI or an AI provider key.
  • Use Script Assistant to write, rewrite, and explain the open script.
  • Request inline changes to selected code and review the diff before applying it.

MORE OF THE WORKSPACE

An Ignition-aware workspace, not a detached editor.

The supporting tools stay organized around the project already open in Designer.

Code editing
Use tabs, outline, snippets, minimap, and multi-cursor editing in the Designer workspace.
Ignition-aware help
Complete system APIs, project libraries, resolved imports, tag paths, database schemas, and Named Query details.
Project navigation
Browse supported scripts, WebDev endpoints, Named Queries, and Gateway event scripts on Ignition 8.3.
Query workbench
Run queries in place, inspect grid results, and explicitly confirm write operations.
Change safety
Use Save All and Designer Save. The editor warns you if the resource changed elsewhere.
Local analysis and AI
Use local Script IQ without an AI key, or connect your provider for Script Assistant and inline edits.

Requirements

Choose the build that matches your Ignition version.

OPERATING SYSTEM
Windows
Currently tested and supported on Windows. Other operating systems have not been verified.
IGNITION
8.1.33+ or 8.3.0+
Use 8.1.33 or later on the 8.1 line, or 8.3.0 or later on the 8.3 line. Download the matching build.
PROJECT TYPE
Perspective
Built for Perspective-based projects. Project awareness does not extend to Vision or other Ignition modules.
AI USAGE
Cloud or local AI
Use a supported cloud provider with your own API key, or connect a compatible local AI server. AI-provider usage is billed separately.
CONNECTIVITY
Internet access
Required for initial online Gateway activation. Offline activation is not available. Cloud AI also requires connectivity.

Perspective is required. The Ignition Perspective module must be installed on the Gateway. S5 modules will not load without it.

Online activation. Activate and manage licenses on the Gateway page. Offline activation is not available. Trials expire at their fixed end date. Cloud AI requires internet access; a local AI server does not replace online license activation.

AI connects directly to the provider or compatible endpoint you configure, including Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI (maker of ChatGPT), Google, and OpenAI-compatible local or custom endpoints. S5 does not bundle or mark up AI credits, or route your project data, code or AI credentials through S5 servers for AI requests.

Compatibility varies by provider and model; listing a connection does not mean every provider and model combination has been tested. AI Assistant and Script IDE are licensed separately and maintain their own AI settings.
